Orly Airport transfers to Versailles and the suburbs

⭐ Orly Airport to Versailles

Versailles is about 25 km west of Orly, and late in the evening the drive takes under half an hour by the A86. By public transport the trip is less simple. The usual route is metro line 14, then the RER C out to Versailles, and Google’s journey planner shows two changes and more than an hour. A FlixBus coach does run straight from the airport, but only on a few set departures, the first one in the afternoon, so it only suits you if your landing happens to fit. Transatlantic flights into Orly use Orly 4, the terminal for transatlantic arrivals, and your car leaves from the car park beside it.

There is one more detail visitors discover too late. Suitcases and large bags are not allowed anywhere on the Versailles estate, palace, park and gardens included, for security reasons. The free left-luggage lockers only take bags smaller than cabin size. If you fly in and want to see the palace the same day, drop your cases at the hotel first, or book your driver by the hour so they stay in the car while you visit. Hourly hire is available on request.

One common mix-up is worth a warning. Porte de Versailles, where the big trade fairs of Paris Expo take place, is inside Paris, in the 15th arrondissement, and has nothing to do with the town of Versailles. Tell us the full address and you will end up in the right place.

🗺️ La Défense and Plenitude Arena

La Défense, the business district west of Paris, sits outside the city itself, across several towns of the Hauts-de-Seine. From Orly, the metro and the RER A get you there in about fifty minutes with one change, and you still have to find the right tower on foot. Business travellers usually prefer to be dropped at the entrance of the office or the hotel, and to use the drive for calls.

The same district is home to the big indoor venue formerly called Paris La Défense Arena, renamed Plenitude Arena in July 2026. Concerts and sports events bring crowds, and the venue does not accept suitcases. Landing on the day of a show, you have to leave your luggage somewhere first, and your driver can take you to the hotel before the concert. For a pickup after the last song, book around 48 hours ahead so we can plan the car and the meeting point.

⭐ Stade de France and the north of Paris

Here public transport is genuinely good. Since metro line 14 was extended, it runs from Orly straight to Saint-Denis Pleyel, which the Stade de France lists as its own station, and on event days trains come every couple of minutes. With a small backpack and no deadline, it works well.

With a suitcase it does not. The stadium refuses suitcases of any size at its gates, and backpacks above 15 litres. If your flight lands on match day, the car takes you to your hotel first, so you reach the ground with only your ticket. We also collect fans after the final whistle, from Saint-Denis or any town north of Paris. Give us a couple of days’ notice and your driver agrees the meeting point with you.

💶 Suburban taxis, ride apps and a booked car

Outside every terminal, Orly has separate taxi ranks marked for the suburbs. Paris Aéroport explains that trips to the suburbs, and longer ones such as Versailles, are charged at the meter rate from the official price list. So the figure you pay depends on the route, the hour and every slow stretch of the A86 on the way. The official taxis are safe and run day and night. The only thing you cannot know in advance is the total.

Uber, Bolt and Heetch also operate at Orly, and they quote when you tap the button, at whatever the demand is at that moment. After a long flight, with the whole family waiting next to the luggage trolley, that is a lot of variables. A booked driver removes them. The amount shown when you reserve is the amount you pay, and your driver speaks English, has been selected for calm and careful driving, and already knows the road to your door.

Nothing is left to chance on the day you land. Here is what happens between the plane and the car.

If your flight is late, there is no need to call anyone. Your driver sees the new time and stays, for as long as two hours past the planned arrival, at no cost. Without a delay, the driver still gives you fifteen minutes at no charge.

For the return trip, your driver comes to your front door at the hour you pick, even in the small hours before a first-wave departure.
